A Two-Day Creative Journey

Unleash your creativity and transform your ideas into captivating performances in this dynamic two-day workshop! Whether you're a budding storyteller or an experienced creator, you'll learn how to evaluate your ideas, develop them into compelling narratives, and bring them to life through theater, film, or prose.

Through hands-on activities, collaborative brainstorming, and professional guidance, you’ll refine your storytelling skills, pitch your ideas, and work with others to create something extraordinary. The workshop culminates in a public-worthy performance of the best idea developed during the session.

This is your chance to dive into the art of storytelling, embrace creative risk-taking, and collaborate with like-minded individuals to turn your vision into reality!

Workshop Details

Uncovering and Refining Ideas

​

Morning Session (9:00 AM - 12:30 PM):

 

Welcome & Introduction

  • Icebreaker activity: Share your favourite story idea (real or imagined).

  • Overview of workshop goals and structure.

 

Finding the Spark

  • Group exercise: Brainstorm creative ideas in pairs or small groups.

  • Identifying a concept’s potential: Is it worth developing?

  • Instructor-led discussion on storytelling essentials (theme, premise, audience appeal).

 

Developing Ideas

  • Individual work: Outline your idea and draft a basic pitch.

  • Peer feedback: Sharing ideas and gathering initial impressions.

 

Lunch Break (12:30 PM - 1:30 PM)

 

Afternoon Session (1:30 PM - 5:00 PM):

 

Medium Alignment

  • Exploring mediums: Is your idea best suited for theater, film, or prose?

  • Hands-on activity: Experimenting with different formats.

 

Collaborative Work

  • Form small teams to discuss overlapping ideas and potential collaboration.

  • Workshopping ideas with team feedback.

 

Homework

  • Participants refine their concepts and prepare a short pitch for Day 2.

DAY ONE

From Concept to Creation

Morning Session (9:00 AM - 12:30 PM):

 

Pitching Ideas

  • Participants present their ideas (3–5 minutes per pitch).

  • Group discussion and constructive critique.

 

Idea Selection

  • Workshop participants vote on the most compelling idea(s) for development.

  • Instructor guides the group in combining ideas where possible.

Developing the Chosen Idea

  • Group activity: Crafting the narrative, building characters, and designing structure.

 

Lunch Break (12:30 PM - 1:30 PM)

 

Afternoon Session (1:30 PM - 5:00 PM):

​

Production Planning

  • Assigning roles: Writers, directors, performers, and technical support.

  • Creating a basic production plan and timeline.

 

Rehearsing & Fine-Tuning

  • Rehearsals or drafts based on the chosen medium (e.g., script reading, short performance blocking).

  • Group discussion on improvements.

 

Final Presentation

  • Present a polished excerpt of the chosen project (short film, play scene, or story excerpt).

 

Closing & Feedback

  • Reflecting on the workshop experience.

  • Group discussion: How to continue developing your ideas beyond the workshop.

Outcome:
Participants leave with developed skills in storytelling, pitching, collaboration, and creating a performance-ready project from scratch.

Instructor

Majid, the founder of ‘TAFF ART Society’ is an award-winning bilingual Iranian-Canadian artist; Actor, Writer, Director. He is based in Vancouver with over twenty years of experience in theatre and film With a focus on abstract narratives, his works seek to explore alternative definitions of freedom through a contemporary multicultural lens by creating and producing film and play.
