DAY ONE
Introduction to Acting and Storytelling

Objective: Understand the fundamentals of acting and its connection to storytelling.
​
Topics Covered:

What is acting? Exploring its art and purpose.

The actor’s role in storytelling.
-
Introduction to various acting techniques (Stanislavski, Meisner, Chekhov, etc.).
-
Warm-up exercises: Body, voice, and mind preparation.

DAY TWO
​Philosophy of Acting and the Actor’s Mindset
Objective: Explore the philosophy behind acting and develop an actor’s mindset.

Topics Covered:

Acting as a reflection of humanity: The "why" behind performances.
-
Understanding presence, vulnerability, and authenticity.
-
Overcoming self-consciousness and building confidence.
-
Introduction to mindfulness and focus exercises.

Assignment.

Character Development

Objective: Learn how to create deep, believable characters.
Topics Covered:

Understanding character goals, motivations, and flaws.

Physicality and vocal work: How does your character move and speak?

Building a backstory: Who is your character, and what shaped them?

Practical exercises: Embodying a character through improvisation.

DAY FOUR
Emotions and Emotional Authenticity
Objective: Access and express emotions authentically in performance.

Topics Covered:

Emotional recall and substitution techniques.
-
Understanding and playing emotional beats in a scene.
-
Techniques for managing and channeling vulnerability.
-
Practical exercises: Partner work focusing on emotional connections.

DAY FIVE
Action and Objectives

Objective: Learn to drive performances through purposeful actions.

Topics Covered:

The importance of objectives and intentions in a scene.
-
Understanding "tactics" and "obstacles" in acting.

Balancing internal motivations with external actions.

Practical exercises: Analyzing and performing an action-focused scene.

DAY SIX
Relationships and Chemistry
Objective: Explore how relationships influence acting choices and enhance storytelling.

The dynamics of relationships in a scene: Power, love, conflict, and more.

Creating chemistry with scene partners.
-
Building trust and vulnerability in ensemble work.
-
Practical exercises: Duo and ensemble scenes exploring relationships.

DAY SEVEN
Integrating Techniques and Scene Work

Objective: Synthesize learned techniques into polished performances.

Scene analysis and preparation: Text, subtext, and character development.

Rehearsal techniques for consistency and spontaneity.

Practical exercises: Rehearsing scenes with feedback.

DAY EIGHT
Showcase and Reflection
Objective: Perform for peers and reflect on your growth as an act

Final performance of monologues or scenes with peer and instructor feedback.

Group reflection: What have you learned, and how will you apply it?

Building a personal practice: Tips for continual improvement in acting.

Majid, the founder of ‘TAFF ART Society’ is an award-winning bilingual Iranian-Canadian artist; Actor, Writer, Director. He is based in Vancouver with over twenty years of experience in theatre and film With a focus on abstract narratives, his works seek to explore alternative definitions of freedom through a contemporary multicultural lens by creating and producing film and play.
